I have recently been searching for the origins of Marcus L. SEWELL born in England in (about) 1805. A shoemaker by trade. He arrived in New Orleans and travelled to Texas where he settled in Gonzales. On 23rd Feb. 1836 he joined the Gonzales Ranging Company and rode to the relief of the Alamo at St. Antonio. This group arrived there on 1st March and Marcus was killed in the battle on 6th March 1836.
I have tried in vain to find his place of birth in England. Can anyone out there
track him down?
Ed. Sewell

Edward,

I have seen the name Marcus Sewell mentioned on other bulletin boards in the past and the problem is that there is not much more information on him other than the name. No one really knows where he was born and if he was really born in England. If anyone can help it will be great but dont't get your hope up.

I have been researching Marcus L Sewell, Alamo Defender also, and
have some documents that show his father was George Sewell of
Madison County, Ala and was born in Jefferson County, Tenn. I know
all Records of the Alamo will indicate born in England, but could they
be wrong.
