    Default Soles of Kelshall

I was having a closer look at the family of Goodman Sole (my gr-gr-gr-grandfather) - what confuses me is that there seems to be few in the family who follow the traditional naming pattern. (If I've misread lists, please forgive me!) Having researched another branch of my family (Scottish), research was made easy by how closely they followed the traditional naming pattern. Can anyone explain this?

Unfortunately the English don't usually use the naming pattern seen in Scottish families - research would be much simpler if they did! All that can be said of English families is that more often than not if they have several sons, one will probably be named after the father, and similarly one of the daughters will probably named after the mother but there's no rigid pattern as to which son or daughter this is likely to be.
